Feeding your little one can be quite the task. I’ve been there Mama. Trying to find the best snacks for babies isn’t always easy. Do you buy them? Make them yourself?( if you want to learn how to make your own baby food click here.) Organic? Gluten-free? What age can I give it to them? All questions I asked myself and I know I’m not alone. With that in mind I’ve put together a list of some of the best snacks that I personally give my little guy to snack on. He LOVES all these 🙂
This is one of the first snacks that your little boo can eat. And when I say first thing he eats I mean other than cereal and fruits and veggies. I’m talking about a snack. I love these because they are super small and so easy for baby to eat and swallow. They melt so fast and they are jam packed with lots of vitamins. They come in a bunch of flavors. I’ve tried the Gerber brand and the Parents choice brand, but I prefer the Gerber ones because they are fluffy and easy to melt in babies mouth, whereas the Parents choice ones are harder in texture. These also help baby learn to master the pincer grasp. #Win!
Bananas are an awesome snack for babies because they are soft and easily smushed. You can cut them up in big or small pieces depending on how old your baby is. They are high in potassium and great for a first food. When my son was around 7 months and I would give him bananas he would get so excited, he loves them!
I really love these for my son. They are small and melt fast. I love the Gerber ones but you can also make them yourself by following this tutorial shown here
These are really good for a beginners snack. They are corn snacks that kind of look like Cheeto puffs( I could totally go for some Cheeto puffs right now lol). And they come in different flavors like veggie dip, cheddar, garden tomato and Apple sweet potato to name a few. They are full of Vitamin E, Iron and Zinc. And of course whole grain. When your baby is still in the 7-10 month range I would break the crunchies in half and give them to your baby because they are kind of long, but baby will learn to bite them as he/she gets older.
LOVE these. My son is obsessed with them. They come in a bunch of flavors and are great to have as a snack or with a meal.
This is one of the first snacks I bought my little guy. These rice risks are really easy for baby to eat as they dissolve almost as soon as they get in your babies mouth. They are really long and big so you can let your baby hold them and suck on it or break it up into little pieces and eat it. I love these because they are gluten free, egg free and peanut free. They also have not artificial flavors, coloring or preservatives which I think all Mamas love!
7. Cheese cubes
I started giving little guy cheese cubes because every time he would see me eating some he would grab at it and whine until I gave him some. Let me just tell you that he is just like his Mama…. he LOVES him some cheese! Cheese is a good source of protein and calcium too!
Now don’t get mad at me y’all, but I don’t like avocado. I know, I know you’re ready to disown me. But it’s never been my thing. I don’t get it at all, but I said that with my second child I was going to have him try all types of fruits and veggies that I don’t eat because I want him to be well rounded. Avocados are full of vitamin C, E, K and B-6. They are also provide lutein, beta carotene and omega-3 fatty acids. My little guy gobbles it up every time I give it to him.
9. Any fruit or veggie
As long as you’ve tried it with your baby and he’s had no allergic reaction any fruit or veggie is a good snack for your baby. Depending on your babies age determines the size and texture of the pieces of fruit you are giving him. When baby is still 7-9 months (or until a few teeth have come in) you want to purée the fruits and veggies. I have a tutorial on how to make your own strawberries here and your own peaches here Then as teeth come in you can gradually leave them chunkier. Fruits and veggies are jam packed with vitamins that baby needs to grow and are always an immediate go to for your little honey.
Whatever you decide to give your baby to snack on be sure to give it to them several times throughout the day as babies tummies are oh so little (and cute lol). Make sure to watch them like a hawk so they don’t choke on any food ( so easy to do, it happens to all babies at some point or another). And most of all have fun and get creative with food!
Til next time,
